HERERUSSIA.com is intended for a very wide audience of people interested in Russia, be they Russians or foreigners.
Unfortunately, foreigners travelling to Russia and those living abroad have a minimum of information about our country, and this information is not always correct. On the contrary, one often encounters a wholly distorted image of life in our country, right down to the popular myth of bears roaming Russian streets. Far too often, in interviews with famous western actors or athletes, or even in conversations with everyday visitors, we hear the same thing: “I used to imagine Russia and Russians in a completely different way. I thought Russia was a terribly cold and dark country, that the people there were gloomy, and that all of them were KGB agents. ]But it turns out that you have such a beautiful country, and the people here are so kind and pleasant.” Even foreigners who have been living in Russia for a number of years may have a dim idea of their surroundings. They may know something about the main sights in Moscow and St. Petersburg, maybe even something about our culture if they are able to speak Russian well, but nevertheless they are often confused by everyday communication with Russians. For example, they may not know rules of behavior which are elementary to us: when to address someone as «вы», and when as «ты»; when you should call someone by their first name only, and when you should call them by their first name and patronymic; how to behave as a guest in someone’s home; and how to carry out a conversation on the phone.
As interest in our country increases throughout the world, we would like to reveal the true Russia to you, to give you a chance to get acguainted with its customs and traditions, with the everyday life of its people, and with the changes that have occurred here lately. It is for all of these reasons combined that we offer you this website.
